Note: The candidates are required to attempt any three question from Section A  carrying 5 marks each and attempt any 5 questions from Section B carrying 1 mark each .

SECTION – A

Q.1 (a) Define carnot theorem, how it is related to the efficiency of heat engine?

(b) What do you understand by inversion temperature and Joule Thompson coefficient.

Q.2 a) what was the need of second law of thermodynamics? How you can define second law of thermodynamics?

b) What is C, how can you derive the formula:

              [Cp = p        ,     [Cv =

Q.3 a) Drive relationship between heat capacity at constant volume and constant pressure.

b) Define and derive Joules Law?

Q.4 (a) what are d-block elements? Give their electronic configurations. All transition metals exhibit valency and give coloured ions. Explains.

(B) Give reasons 1. Most of the transition metals are paramagnetic in nature 2. Transition metals show catalytic properties.

Q.5 a) How does the reactivity of Hg  differ from that of Zn and CD? Explain.

b) Zirconium and Hafnium exhibit similar properties.

Q.6 Explain why first ionisation energy of Hg is higher than that of Cr.

b) Discuss the electronic configuration and oxidation states of lanthanides.

                                                 SECTION – B

Q.1 what is the efficiency of carnot cycle?

Q.2 What was the need of concept of enthalpy?

Q.3 Discuss redox stability of water with example?

Q.4 In given reaction, label the oxidant and reductant:

    SnCl2  +  2HgCl2           —>          SnCl4  + Hg2ClQ.

5 what is Lanthanides contraction? iOS would you account for it?

Q.6 Discuss the chemistry of Cu(I) and Cu(ll) oxidation states?

Q.7 Calculate the amount of heat supplied to the Carnot cycle working between the temperature 27^C and 23^C if the maximum work obtained is 120newton.
